Major perennial producer sold to Canadian buyer
From an area near Sdr. Omme in Central Jutland, Majland Stauder ApS supplies B-2-B customers in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland with high-quality perennials.
As a result of a carefully considered generational succession, ownership of Majland Stauder ApS has been transferred to the Canadian investment company Lynx Equity Limited, which acquires well-run small and medium-sized companies in Scandinavia and elsewhere.
Founded in 1955, the company is one of the largest perennial producers in Denmark with more than 1,400 varieties in its range.
For the past 12 years, Torben Kristensen, Leif Rahbek and Erik Lauridsen have made up the group of owners and daily management.
Ole Jensen and Klaus Termansen from Business Broker the owners of Majland Stauder during the structured sales process.
Canadian Lynx acquires Danish manufacturing company
The sale of Majland Stauder is the story of a group of three owners, all of whom are active in the company's operations and are over 50 years of age. The owners wanted a generational succession where they could continue as the day-to-day management team and where the staff and large customer base would not experience any changes as a result of the change of ownership.
On this basis, Lynx Equity Limited is the ideal buyer.
"Lynx acquires small and medium-sized niche companies that are healthy and well-run, and where there is certainty that the management wants to continue in the company after the change of ownership," says Ole Jensen from Business Broker.
Business broker with knowledge of niche businesses
At Majland Stauder, they are very satisfied with Business Brokers .
"From the very first meetings, Ole and Klaus understood our business and the market we operate in. We quickly gained their trust because they outlined realistic scenarios for the process ahead of us," recalls Erik Lauridsen, former owner and now new CEO of Majland Stauder.
He did not know Lynx Equity Limited beforehand. It was Business Broker who mentioned them as a possible candidate in the list of potential buyers that the business brokers presented to the owners of Majland Stauder.
Investment company acquires Danish SMEs
Lynx showed great interest from the first contact.
"Lynx is a Canadian investment company that is very enthusiastic about Danish corporate culture, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises. Majland Stauder is the sixth Danish company they have acquired in Denmark to date," says Klaus Termansen from Business Broker.
He looks back on a sales process where Majland Perennial's production facilities and inventory played a bigger role than in many other business transactions.
"The production facility comprises eight hectares specially prepared for the production of perennials and the inventory is a "living" inventory. This has been one of the focal points in the valuation and negotiations," says Klaus Termansen.
Big advantage of having a due diligence specialist
Sales representative Erik Lauridsen highlights Business Brokers in due diligence:
"We were surprised that the buyer asked so many questions about our business. It was worth its weight in gold to have Ole and Klaus to sort out what we should prioritize."
The sales process has ended exactly as the former owners wanted it to. There has been an internal change of CEO, where Leif Rahbek has handed over the role of CEO to Erik Lauridsen at his own request.
"We have a really good solution. The change of ownership does not change a comma for employees or customers. Lynx will not interfere in the daily operations. This means that the three of us will continue to manage the ongoing development process in the company," says Erik Lauridsen.
